Something to Whine About
The wonderful Tess Gerritsen blogged recently about the insecurities of successful writers and their right to whine about them. The post ended with:
Oh, to have the problems of a Gerritsen, Clark, Steele, Roberts, Brown, etc.
Now granted, I'm sure even JK Rowling has her share of writer woes, but I just had to shake my head at Tess' line up there when I finished reading her post. I mean, when I think about how much Millenia Black, Monica Jackson, and many others who are being denigrated in publishing--not allowed an equal shot at their job--deserve to whine, my heart moves. How about when folks who are in a position to make some difference insult writers, calling them liars when they whine about it? And others totally ignore you as if you aren't worth the time?
How about when the disparity is glaringly obvious-- but there's dead silence from anyone who can help raise awareness and/or make some difference? If similar affronts were being thrust upon certain others, it's all we'd ever hear about from the more popular literary venues and notable peoples.
Now there's something writers deserve to whine about. Something real, of painful gravity. Something substantive.

Now AR for the global philosopher that he is has something to say about this though it may sound kind of odd but I swear you'll find it true nonetheless.
Look at human life opposed to that of lower animals, there's clear answer as to why our lives are plagued with so many self-defeating attitudes and norms. Lets not forget that humans are animals too, were born ignorant and must be taught discipline in thought and behavior. This discipline usually comes from the birth cradle where most likely is missing for many of us.
Well the plain fact is that there're just too many un trained human on the planet in various positions of power. But they would fool you into thinking they've got something other than their success, opportunity or even good looks. For humans its been a long time since we have up the horse well behind the cart and make havoc of things.
As we go along it worth remembering that there are the real elite humans loving and supportive of all others, opposed to those who are not much different for the lower animals who have not made it into the real elite realm of moral virtues. Thus we have this situation in the literary world. Very pathetic, isn't it? Don't them to distinguished between anything important.
Good points, AR. Education is needed to get folks to a higher realm of reason.
Writers are people too :)
